Opened in 2006, the Järvenpää store is one of the largest Tokmanni stores in Finland, with one of the most diverse selections in the country. For example, the size of the store’s newly renovated food department is around 1,100 square metres.

Tokmanni, Finland’s largest general discount retailer, has revamped the food department of its Järvenpää store, which sells both dry foodstuffs and fresh food. After a major refurbishment, the Järvenpää store now has a wider selection and offers a markedly improved customer experience.

The store has been revamped in line with Tokmanni’s newest food department concept. To ensure easy and pleasant shopping, special attention has been paid to the arrangement and display of products and product categories. Customers’ wishes have been taken into account in the store layout. For example, food trends – such as local food, healthiness and easy preparation – are highlighted more clearly than before. The number of shelves has also been increased to enable a more comprehensive product assortment.

The overall appearance of the Järvenpää store is markedly more pleasing and modern than before. For example, the colour scheme combines Tokmanni’s main colours, red and white, with a modern dark grey.

“The purpose of the refurbishment is to create a more diverse and comfortable store with a more comprehensive selection of food products and consumer goods. The modern and practical facilities of the store building provided a good starting point for revamping the food department. We believe that the refurbished store and our newest food department concept will be well received in Järvenpää,” says Harri Koponen, Store Network and Concept Director at Tokmanni.

The Tokmanni store in Järvenpää has around 4,950 square metres of retail selling space, including a food department of around 1,100 square metres.

The product range has been tailored to the needs of local customers. The food department in Järvenpää store now has an in-store bakery, for example.

Hundreds of new products and an in-store bakery with a changing selection of nearly 100 products

For customers, the refurbished food department also means more extensive selections. The Tokmanni store in Järvenpää now offers nearly 500 new products, such as a wider selection of chicken, fish, vegetables, vegetarian foods, cold cuts and minced meat. Dozens of products have also been added to the selections of snacks, yoghurts, juices and food preparation products, for example. The additions include products from several Finnish local and small producers.

The new in-store bakery offers various types of bread, as well as croissants, buns, sweet pastries and other classics and a changing selection of seasonal products and stock lots. The in-store bakery range will include nearly 100 different products.

“Overall, the refurbished food department of the Tokmanni store in Järvenpää has a selection of more than 10,000 grocery products. The range has been tailored to the needs of local customers, and we will continue to supplement the selection based on customers’ wishes and purchasing behaviour,” says Matti Korolainen, Commercial Director at Tokmanni.

Some things remain unchanged – such as the low prices.

“We will continue to ensure that we offer a diverse range of products at affordable prices, so we encourage customers to pay attention to our special offers and to pop in for smart shopping. The Tokmanni store in Järvenpää offers everything you need under one roof,” says Korolainen.

Less waste and better energy efficiency

Tokmanni seeks to reduce waste by optimising order volumes and deliveries, for example. In addition, Tokmanni stores sell soon-to-expire food products at half-price, starting two hours before the store’s closing time. Waste is also reduced by donating unsold food products to charity.

Before the refurbishment of its food department, the Tokmanni store in Järvenpää had already replaced refrigeration equipment and lighting units with more energy-efficient models. The Tokmanni stores use 100% renewable electricity. Some of the electricity consumed by the Järvenpää store is generated using solar panels installed on the roof.

One of the largest and most diverse Tokmanni stores in Finland

Opened in 2006, the Järvenpää store is one of the largest Tokmanni stores in Finland, with one of the most diverse selections in the country. In addition to a comprehensive range of food products, the store offers a wide selection of products related to beauty, health and wellbeing, as well as home decoration, cleaning and home improvement. It also has a large selection of clothes and accessories, household consumer goods and leisure products, such as exercise equipment, home electronics and entertainment goods.

“Flowers and plants, as well as various garden and yard equipment, also play a significant role in Tokmanni’s product selections. The Tokmanni store in Järvenpää has a very spacious garden department,” says Korolainen.

The Järvenpää store has around 50 employees. Under the supervision of Store Manager Sanna Viita, the store serves customers with long opening hours: from 8 am to 9 pm on weekdays and Saturdays and from 10 am to 8 pm on Sundays. The store is located at Helsingintie 43, 04430 Järvenpää.

Tokmanni takes care of safety in many ways

Special attention is paid to ensuring a safe shopping experience. The safety of customers and employees is ensured with protective screens installed at checkouts and by offering customers hand sanitiser during their visit and reminding them to keep a safe distance with posters and announcements. In addition, it is recommended that employees and customers wear face masks. More information about safety measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic at Tokmanni is available in Finnish on the company website at www.tokmanni.fi/koronavirus.

To celebrate the completion of the renovation project, the Järvenpää store will have special offers from Thursday 4 March to Sunday 7 March 2021. Because of the COVID-19 situation, no events will be held at the store, and no surprise gift buckets will be handed out to customers.
