Tokmanni is actively involved with the Hunger Day collection of its partner, the Finnish Red Cross – Avun ketju (Chain of Aid) safety reflectors available from all Tokmanni stores and the online store
Tokmanni Press release 12 August 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
The Finnish Red Cross’s Chain of Aid safety reflectors are available for purchase at all Tokmanni stores and in the online store until the end of October. Proceeds from sale of the reflectors, which cost five euros, will be directed to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help those in need in Finland and abroad. This year, the Hunger Day campaign will be headlined by the Finnish actor Krista Kosonen.
Tokmanni is selling the Chain of Aid reflectors, the new Finnish Red Cross fund-raising product, in all its stores and in its online store. In addition, Tokmanni will donate five cents to its longstanding partner’s Disaster Relief Fund for each Priima food product and Kotikulta decoration light product it sells between August and October 2021.
The Red Cross is introducing the Chain of Aid safety reflector as a new way of raising funds to complement the familiar Hunger Day campaign. Priced at EUR 5, the Chain of Aid reflector depicts a chain of helpers that comprises people supporting each other in Finland and around the world. Manufactured in Finland, the reflector improves safety in everyday life. Proceeds from its sales will be directed to the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Finnish Red Cross to provide aid where it is needed most.
The Hunger Day 2021 campaign will be headlined by the Finnish actor Krista Kosonen. Krista believes we have an obligation to help each other.
“You cannot know what life has in store for you. When you help others whenever you can, you'll get help when you need it yourself,” she says.
The Chain of Aid reflectors will be sold at all Tokmanni stores and in the Tokmanni online store until the end of October.
“As a longstanding partner of the Finnish Red Cross, we want to help it raise funds for the Disaster Relief Fund by selling the Chain of Aid safety reflectors. The reflector improves pedestrian visibility in traffic and is therefore an important safety item in itself, but the Chain of Aid reflector is also special because of its other purpose,” says Mika Rautiainen, Tokmanni’s CEO.
The Hunger Day campaign is well known to many Finns and has been organised for over 40 years. It raises funds for the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which is used to quickly and effectively provide aid to victims of natural disasters or major accidents in Finland and abroad. Tokmanni, a longstanding partner of the Finnish Red Cross, will again take part in the Hunger Day campaign this year.
Many ways to help
This year, it is very easy to take part in the Hunger Day collection by buying Chain of Aid reflectors and also by buying Priima food products and Kotikulta decoration light products from Tokmanni's stores and its online store. Tokmanni will donate five cents for every Priima food product and Kotikulta decoration light product it sells from August to October to the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Fund. Priima and Kotikulta are Tokmanni's private labels, and the campaign includes more than 200 different products.
“The relief work of the Finnish Red Cross needs our help. We encourage everyone to participate in the campaign in the way and with the amount that best suits them. Donations can also be made directly to the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund on the organisation's website, for example,” says Rautiainen.
“Tokmanni's participation in the campaign is very important, as our cooperation brings helping close to people's everyday life,” says Sirpa Solehmainen, Fundraising Director at the Finnish Red Cross.
Longstanding collaboration
Tokmanni's support for the Finnish Red Cross is based on the partners’ longstanding collaboration, the purpose of which is to promote the wellbeing of people and communities and reduce loneliness and social exclusion. Tokmanni is committed to supporting the important work of the Red Cross at least until the end of 2023.
“It is important to us that our cooperation is concrete and easy to understand. During the three years of our cooperation we have been involved in the Hunger Day collections and helped with the organisation's Christmas cafés. We have also given free Christmas presents to hundreds of family carers and people suffering from loneliness,” says Rautiainen.
“Last year we also supported the Finnish Red Cross in its efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic by donating products and offering help with logistics. Our cooperation received much praise, which demonstrates that our support matters.”
The Chain of Aid reflector in brief:
-
The Chain of Aid reflector is a new collection product of the Finnish Red Cross. The proceeds from the reflectors are directed to the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Finnish Red Cross to quickly provide aid where it is needed most at any particular time.
- Priced at EUR 5, the reflectors are part of the Hunger Day campaign. Hunger Day is a fundraising campaign of the Finnish Red Cross held every year in September and October. This year, the national street collection campaign is taking place from 23 to 25 September 2021.
- In Finland, Disaster Relief Fund donations are used to train volunteers and to maintain Finland's preparedness to respond effectively to various crisis situations. Sudden accidents and disruptions include fires, floods and major accidents.
- The Finnish Red Cross is helping to provide aid in the Philippines, where numerous natural disasters every year cause suffering and distress. Hot food and water canisters, for example, are distributed to families as emergency aid, but the long-term work involved in rebuilding and development of preparedness is equally important.
