Tokmanni opens its remodelled store in Jyskä in Jyväskylä – Shopping experience offered by the spacious Tokmanni is in line with the discount retailer’s new store concept

Tokmanni will celebrate the opening its remodelled store in Jyskä in Jyväskylä with special offers that will be available from Thursday 26 October to Sunday 29 October 2023.

Tokmanni has made improvements to the store to bring it in line with its new store concept. The store previously known as Jyskän Varastomyymälä was integrated into the Tokmanni store chain at the beginning of this year.

“We opened the store under the Tokmanni brand name at the beginning of the year. At that time we mainly renewed our product assortments based on our customers’ wishes. We also updated the store’s garden department last spring to make it even more comprehensive,” says Timo Heimo, Vice President, Sales and Supply Chain at Tokmanni.

“Our latest improvements have focused strongly on customer experience and have been a natural continuation to those carried out at the beginning of the year. In practice, we have renewed our shop fittings and appearance to bring them in line with the Tokmanni brand. We have also streamlined the checkout process by relocating the checkouts in a slightly different place and adding an information and service point in the same location. These changes have also been made in response to customer wishes, and the end result is a Tokmanni that is more service-oriented in many ways,” he adds.

Other improvements carried out this autumn include further supplementing the product range with various products related to renovation and DIY. For example, ESSVE screws suitable for professional use and Tactix hand tools will be sold at the store. The store, with a surface area of approximately 5,500 square metres, already had a very extensive range of products related in particular to beauty, health and wellbeing, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products, as well as non-perishable foods.

The Tokmanni store in Jyskä is situated in an excellent commercial location in terms of traffic flow, by the E63 road between the centre of Jyväskylä and Vaajakoski at the address Vaajakoskentie 97, 40420 Jyväskylä. The spacious parking area also makes customers’ shopping trips easier.

The store, headed by Store Manager Saija Pirkkanen, employs around 20 retail sector professionals, including seasonal workers. The store serves its customers with extensive opening hours: on weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm, on Saturdays from 9 am to 7 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.

Convenient services and sustainable choices

Tokmanni also focuses on services that make customers’ daily lives easier and on smart energy choices.

For example, like many other Tokmanni stores, the Jyskä store in Jyväskylä has a recycling point where customers can bring their broken hairdryers, shavers and other small electrical appliances, as well as light bulbs and batteries.

In every Tokmanni store, customers can purchase products as the variety discount retailer chain’s Tokmanni Tukku business customer and as a member of the Tokmanni Klubi customer loyalty program. Customers can also pick up orders made through the Tokmanni online store and withdraw cash when paying at the checkout.

Tokmanni stores purchase only zero-emission electricity. The lighting in all Tokmanni stores is produced with energy-efficient LED technology.

Tokmanni seeks to reduce waste by, among other things, optimising order volumes and deliveries and by selling soon-to-expire food products (red label products) at considerable discounts.

Remodelled store will be celebrated with opening offers and coffee and cake

Tokmanni will celebrate the opening of its refurbished store with special offers that will be available from Thursday 26 October to Sunday 29 October. Tokmanni will also be serving coffee and cake at its stores in Jyväskylä, in Jyskä, Seppälänkangas and the Forum Jyväskylä shopping centre, from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursday 26 October.

Tokmanni will be represented at the Jyskä store in Jyväskylä on Thursday morning on 26 October 2023 by Nina Laukkanen, Regional Manager and by the store staff.

The Tokmanni Group’s network of stores will continue to grow and renew

Tokmanni has entered into agreements on opening new stores in Tiiriö in Hämeenlinna, in Pälkäne, in Eurajoki, in Söderkulla in Sipoo and in Katajaharju in Kouvola. The opening of a new megastore with a surface area of about 9,000 square metres will be celebrated in Hämeenlinna on Thursday 26 October 2023 at the same time as the opening of the Jyskä store in Jyväskylä. The megastore will replace a significantly smaller Tokmanni store located in the same retail park that has been serving customers for a long time. Construction work has started in Pälkäne, and the store opening is planned for next spring. The construction of the Tokmanni store in Eurajoki is scheduled to start next year, and the opening is planned for the autumn of 2024. The construction of the Tokmanni store in Sipoo has started and the opening is planned for the spring of 2024. The aim is to open the new store in Kouvola before the end of this year.

The Tokmanni store chain’s most recent store opening was celebrated in September with the opening of a new Tokmanni store in the Revontuli shopping centre in the centre of Rovaniemi to replace the previous store. In addition, a Tokmanni store opened in May in Konala, Helsinki.

This year, Tokmanni has also expanded its stores in Pihtipudas, in Ruoholahti in Helsinki and in the centre of Kuopio, and has acquired the business operations of Jyskän Varastomyymälä Oy in Jyskä, Jyväskylä, and incorporated the store into the Tokmanni chain. In September, Tokmanni concluded an agreement with the retailer and entrepreneurial couple Terttu and Jaakko Pirtinaho’s Mutalan Kauppa Oy to acquire the business of the Villen Kauppa grocery store. Tokmanni and Villen Kauppa serve their customers in a commercial centre that was opened in 2017 in Elovainio in Ylöjärvi. Tokmanni will take control of the acquired business on 1 January 2024. Villen Kauppa will be incorporated into the Tokmanni store that is located under the same roof in early 2024.

Last spring, the Tokmanni Group opened two dedicated stores of its Miny lifestyle brand, one in the Trio shopping centre in the centre of Lahti and the other next to the Tampere Central Square. It also acquired the entire share capital of the footwear store chains Click Shoes and Shoe House. The newest Click Shoes stores opened their doors in the Pasaati shopping centre in the centre of Kotka in May, in the Willa shopping centre in the centre of Hyvinkää in September and in the Trio shopping centre in the centre of Lahti on Friday 20 October 2023.

In July, the Tokmanni Group also announced that it would acquire Dollarstore, one of Sweden’s leading discount retail chains. The transaction was completed on 1 August 2023. Dollarstore currently has 130 Dollarstore stores in Sweden and three Big Dollar stores in Denmark. The newest store opened its doors under the Big Dollar brand in Hjørring in Denmark, at the end of September. The next store opening will be celebrated at the Big Dollar store in Holbæk in Denmark on Friday 24 November 2023.

In Finland, the Tokmanni Group has 200 Tokmanni stores, six Miny stores, 29 Click Shoes stores and two Shoe House stores. These figures include the Tokmanni store, which will be opened in Tiiriö in Hämeenlinna on Thursday 26 October.
