Tokmanni’s store in the heart of Helsinki has been refurbished and almost doubled in size – Store now offers thousands of new products and a more enjoyable customer experience

Tokmanni, Finland's largest general discount retailer, has significantly expanded and renewed the premises and product selection of its store in the Citycenter shopping centre, which is in the heart of Helsinki. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were no store opening events or free surprise buckets to celebrate the completion of the renovation project.

The retail selling space of the Tokmanni store, located on the K2 floor of the Citycenter centre, has been increased from approximately 1,100 to nearly 2,000 square metres by expanding into vacant retail space next door.

Thanks to the expansion, the Tokmanni Citycenter store now stocks thousands of new products. Footwear and children’s clothing are among the new product areas. The assortments of home textiles, household items and mats have also grown significantly. The store’s product assortment is already specifically designed to meet the daily needs of city dwellers.

In addition to the store premises and product assortments, Tokmanni has enlarged its collection point for items purchased through its online store. Tokmanni has also updated the product displays and shelf layout, for example, in accordance with its newest store concept, which emphasises quick and convenient shopping. In addition, the “Soita ja nouda” (“Call and Pick up”) order service launched by Tokmanni is available in the Citycenter store as well as in other Tokmanni stores. The service is intended for customers who belong to risk groups in these exceptional circumstances.

The purpose of these changes is to meet the customer demand of a store occupying a very central location and to further improve the customer experience.

“The Tokmanni store in the Citycenter shopping centre has been hugely popular ever since its opening in 2017. This significant expansion has allowed us to improve our service, and we are now able to offer thousands of new products, including countless items requested by our customers that we were previously unable to stock due to lack of space,” says Mathias Kivikoski, Sales and Marketing Director at Tokmanni.

“The increase in the size of the store premises has also enabled us to increase shopping convenience in many ways and to improve the customer experience. This includes wider aisles and additional space for the online store collection point,” he adds.

The Citycenter store employs around 15 retail sector professionals. The store, headed by Store Manager Birgitta Heittola, will be open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store’s address is Kaivokatu 2, 00100 Helsinki.

The Tokmanni store in the Citycenter shopping centre served customers as usual throughout the expansion and refurbishment work, which lasted several weeks. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were no opening events or free surprise buckets to celebrate the completion of the renovation project.
