Tokmanni’s varied assortment and affordable prices arrive in Kontula in Helsinki – New store will be celebrated with opening offers and surprise buckets

Tokmanni, with its extensive assortment and affordable prices, will open the doors of its first store in Kontula, Helsinki, on Thursday 24 November 2022 at 8 am. The 11th Tokmanni store in Helsinki and the 21st in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area will be celebrated in a way that is loved by both the variety discount retailer and its customers, with generous opening offers and surprise buckets containing various product gifts. Thursday 24 November is a special day for Tokmanni, as it will be celebrating the new Tokmanni store in Kontula, the expanded and renovated Tokmanni store in Tampere and a new Miny store in Lappeenranta.
The new Tokmanni store will open in a newly renovated and very centrally located commercial building close to Ring Road I and to Kontulantie, which runs through Kontula.
The Tokmanni in Kontula will offer its customers a diverse assortment of, in particular, beauty, health and wellbeing, interior decoration, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products and non-perishable foods. The new store has a total area of around 2,200 square metres.
The Kontula Tokmanni features the variety discount retailer’s latest store concept that has a special focus on convenience of shopping and customer comfort. Product categories are arranged by theme so that they form distinct areas, making it easier for customers to find not only the products they are looking for, but also current seasonal and promotional products.
“Our customers have long wished for a Tokmanni store in Kontula, Helsinki. It is really great that we were able to find premises that meet our needs and that our customers will be able to shop for Christmas presents and other items in our Kontula store already in November,” says Timo Heimo, Vice President, Sales and Supply Chain, at Tokmanni.
The Kontula store will employ some 20 retail sector professionals. The store will serve its customers with extensive opening hours: on weekdays from 8 am to 9 pm, on Saturdays from 8 am to 8 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm. The store’s address is Sirrikuja 1, 00940 Helsinki.

Convenient services and sustainable choices
In addition to offering a pleasant shopping experience and a comprehensive product selection, Tokmanni has invested in services that make customers’ daily life easier and in smart energy choices.
“Like so many of our Tokmanni stores, Kontula has a recycling point for small waste electrical and electronic equipment, where our customers can bring broken electric shavers, curling irons and other small electrical appliances, as well as light bulbs and batteries,” Heimo says.
In all Tokmanni stores, purchases can also be made as a Tokmanni corporate customer and through the Tokmanni Klubi customer loyalty program. Customers can also pick up orders made through the Tokmanni online store and withdraw cash when paying at the checkout.
Tokmanni purchases only zero-emission electricity for its locations. The lighting in the Tokmanni store in Kontula uses energy-efficient LED technology. Tokmanni seeks to reduce waste by, among other things, optimising order volumes and deliveries.
Opening offers and surprise buckets with product gifts at the opening ceremony
The opening of the new store will be celebrated in true Tokmanni style. The Tokmanni store in Kontula, Helsinki, will have plenty of opening offers from its opening day until the end of the week. Naturally, on the opening day, the first 1,000 customers will receive the famous Tokmanni surprise bucket, filled with product gifts. What is more, an EUR 100 Tokmanni gift card has been hidden in two of the buckets.
At the opening on Thursday morning 24 November 2022, Tokmanni will be represented by Mika Rautiainen, President and CEO, Sirpa Huuskonen, Vice President, People, Culture and Sustainability, Harri Koponen, Vice President, Store Network and Concept, and Jyrki Jääskeläinen, Regional Manager, in addition to the store personnel.
With the store opening in November Tokmanni is responding to customer requests to open a store in Kontula, Helsinki. In addition to the opening offers, the opening will also feature Tokmanni’s surprise buckets with various product gifts.
There will be plenty to celebrate all over Finland this week and next year
Thursday 24 November will be a busy day for Tokmanni, as the variety discount retailer will be holding celebrations at three different stores. In addition to the new Tokmanni store in Kontula, Helsinki, the variety discount retailer will be celebrating its expanded and remodelled Tokmanni store in the Koskikeskus shopping centre in Tampere and its new Miny store in the IsoKristiina shopping centre in the heart of Lappeenranta.
Tokmanni has also entered into agreements on opening new stores in Konala in Helsinki, the Keljo district of Jyväskylä and in Söderkulla in Sipoo. A new store in Konala in Helsinki will be celebrated next spring. In Jyväskylä and Sipoo, the opening ceremonies are planned for next year. In addition, earlier in November, Tokmanni announced that the business operations of Jyskän Varastomyymälä Oy in Jyskä, Jyväskylä, would transfer to Tokmanni as of 1 January 2023. This store will be remodelled into a Tokmanni store during next year.
Earlier this year Tokmanni expanded and renewed its stores in Hyvinkää, Ikaalinen and Kuusamo. Extensive remodelling has also been carried out this year at the stores in Kaarina, Tervaharju in Kemi, in Tornio and Porttipuisto in Vantaa. Tokmanni also opened new stores in the Lippulaiva shopping centre in Espoonlahti in March and in Kirkonkylä in Nurmijärvi in August.
In addition to the Tokmanni stores, the variety discount retailer has opened dedicated stores of its Miny lifestyle brand in the Forum shopping centre in the centre of Jyväskylä, the Lippulaiva urban centre in Espoo and the Jumbo-Flamingo entertainment and shopping centre in Vantaa in October. In addition to the dedicated stores, Miny shop-in-shop departments have been opened in nearly 20 Tokmanni stores across Finland this year.
Tokmanni aims to expand its store network in Finland to more than 220 Tokmanni stores by the end of 2025.
