Tokmanni to expand its Citycenter store in Helsinki and its store in Kauhajoki – Wider assortments and improved shopping experiences

Finland's largest general discount retailer chain, Tokmanni, has agreed significant expansions of its Citycenter store at the heart of Helsinki and its store in Kauhajoki. The improvements will enable Tokmanni to meet customer needs even better than before.

The retail selling space of Tokmanni’s Citycenter store, which has been serving customers at the Helsinki shopping mall since August 2017, will increase from approximately 1,100 to nearly 2,000 square meters by expanding into vacant retail space next door.

The expansion will allow the Tokmanni Citycenter store to offer its customers a much more comprehensive product assortment. Footwear will be one of the new product areas at the store. The assortments of home textiles, household items and mats will also grow significantly. The store’s product assortment is already specifically designed to meet the daily needs of city dwellers.

In addition to the retail selling space and product assortment, Tokmanni will enlarge the collection point for items purchased through the online store and update its product displays and shelf layout. The expansion will also increase the number of store staff by about four.

All of these changes are designed to meet the significant customer demand at the store and further improve the customer experience.

“This Tokmanni, which is centrally located in the Citycenter shopping mall, has enjoyed huge popularity ever since it was opened. Our customers have, nevertheless, been requesting wider assortments, and we are now very pleased to announce that they will grow significantly with the refurbishment. By increasing the size of the store by almost half we will be able to offer our customers both a significantly wider product assortment and a more pleasant customer experience,” says Harri Koponen, Store Network and Concept Director at Tokmanni.

Tokmanni aims to carry out the expansion and refurbishment of the store, which is located on the K2 floor of the Citycenter mall, at the start of this year and to keep it open during the refurbishment. The plan is to celebrate the opening of the expanded and refurbished store around the end March and beginning of April.

Tokmanni has eight stores in Helsinki including the Citycenter store, and 17 in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
 

Tokmanni will expand its store located in the centre of Kauhajoki by approximately 500 square metres, from a retail selling space of 1,570 to 2,055 square metres. A separate covered garden department, measuring 125 square metres, and a fenced-in garden area, measuring 45 square metres, will also be constructed for the store. The opening of the expanded Tokmanni in Kauhajoki will be held in April.

Similar to the Citycenter store, the product displays and shelf layout will also be updated at the store in Kauhajoki in addition to the product assortment. The Kauhajoki store already offers a comprehensive assortment of products, but the expansion will further widen it especially with tools, electrical equipment and product related to cars and the home.
