Tokmanni to expand its store network to Rusko in Oulu

Tokmanni, Finland's largest general discount retailer, has signed an agreement on the opening of a new store in Rusko in Oulu. Tokmanni’s goal is to celebrate the opening of the new store in Rusko’s popular retail business centre in the spring of 2022. Construction requires a revision of the town plan. The commercial building to be built in the area will be located at Laakeritie 9 and built by Siklatilat Oy.
The Tokmanni store to be opened in Rusko will offer its customers a wide and attractive assortment of, in particular, beauty, health and wellbeing, interior decoration, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products as well as non-perishable foods at very low prices. In addition, the store will also have a comprehensive garden department.
In Rusko, the Tokmanni store will have about 3,500 square metres of total surface area. The store will be designed in accordance with Tokmanni's latest store concept, which emphasises convenient shopping experiences. The stores in this concept feature wide aisles, informative signage and well-defined departments for different products.
“The store to be opened in Rusko will be Tokmanni's seventh store in Oulu and will complement Tokmanni's service network in the eastern region of Oulu. The store’s location also means it will be very accessible from highway 20 leading to Kuusamo,” says Harri Koponen, Tokmanni’s Store Network and Concept Director.
Smart energy solutions in the Tokmanni stores
Tokmanni focuses considerable attention on smart energy solutions. Tokmanni's stores typically feature a recycling point for small electrical and electronic equipment waste, energy-efficient LED lighting and, if possible, remotely controlled building technology.
All electricity purchased by Tokmanni is renewable electricity, and almost 40 of Tokmanni’s stores already have their own solar power plant, for example. Also in Rusko, a solar power plant consisting of solar panels will be installed on the roof of the Tokmanni store building. If possible, new Tokmanni stores will also feature charging points for electric and rechargeable hybrid cars, for example.
Several store openings in the near future
Tokmanni's aim is to open about five new or expanded stores each year. This year, for example, Tokmanni will open a new store in the Kauppakeskus Kaari shopping centre in Helsinki and in Kausala in Iitti. In addition, Tokmanni will move to new, larger commercial premises in shopping centres in the centres of Lahti and Jyväskylä. In the spring of 2022, Tokmanni will open a new store not only in Rusko in Oulu but also in Kirkonkylä in Nurmijärvi.
“The store openings in Oulu, Helsinki, Iitti, Nurmijärvi, Lahti and Jyväskylä will perfectly supplement our store network, which currently comprises 192 stores and the online store,” says Koponen.
