Tokmanni     Press release     3 June 2022 at 3:30 p.m.

Tokmanni will celebrate the opening of its fully refurbished Tervaharju store in Kemi with special offers and surprise buckets filled with product gifts on Thursday 9 June 2022 at 8 am. The improvements will allow the Tokmanni store to meet customers’ needs even better than before through its extensive assortments and low prices.

The Tervaharju store is far more spacious than the Tokmanni store in the centre of Kemi. The Tervaharju store was acquired from the TEX chain in 2021 and has been refurbished in line with Tokmanni’s new store concept.

“Our store concept emphasises quick and easy shopping. In our Tervaharju store, we have made improvements to the checkout area, signage and overall convenience. In addition, its selection is even wider than before,” says Timo Heimo, Vice President, Sales and Supply Chain at Tokmanni.

The store now offers a wider and more diverse selection of beauty, health and wellbeing, interior decoration, cleaning, clothing, leisure, home electronics, home renovation and seasonal products, as well as food products. In addition, to make shopping easier, there are redesigned and more well-defined departments for different products and product categories.

The staff of the Tervaharju store in Kemi consist of around 25 retail professionals working under Store Manager Heidi Lehtola. The store has a separate garden department, with products ranging from soil and plants to garden tools, depending on the season. Like the other departments, the garden department now offers a wider selection of products, and improvements have also been made to the customer experience. New additions to the product selection include decorative garden stones, trailers and boat trailers, for example. The plan is also to make trailers available for hire during the summer.

Located by the E8 European route, the Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi has a total area of around 6,700 square metres, meaning it is significantly larger than an average Tokmanni store. In addition, the separate garden department has a total area of around 1,900 square metres.

“Our wider product selection, combined with numerous improvements in customer comfort, enables us to meet our customers’ wishes even better than before. We strongly believe that our further improved Tervaharju store in Kemi will be well-received among our customers,” says Heimo.

The Tervaharju store has been redesigned in line with Tokmanni’s newest store concept, which emphasises quick and easy shopping. The store now offers its customers even more products to purchase.

A full-service grocery shop with a fresh fish counter and in-store bakery

Tokmanni stores offer their customers a comprehensive selection of clothes and accessories, cleaning products, beverages and non-perishable foods, as well as products related to interior decoration, home renovation, leisure and personal hygiene, for example.

In Kemi, a town of around 20,000 people, Tokmanni has already been serving its customers with a full-service grocery shop. The food department has been completely refurbished, along with the rest of the store. For customers, this means new refrigeration and other equipment, as well as an even wider product selection.

“The Tervaharju store in Kemi is one of the 18 Tokmanni stores that provide our customers with everything they need, from home renovation tools to ingredients for dinner. The 750-square-metre food and beverage department of our Tervaharju store offers a selection of more than 7,000 food products, from fruit and vegetables to fresh fish. In connection with the refurbishment, various limited stock items and products under Priima, one of Tokmanni’s private labels, have also been added to the food product selection,” says Heimo.

Special attention has been paid to convenience of shopping in the refurbishment of the Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi. For example, the products of local and small producers will be displayed prominently in the food department, as shown here in a picture taken at the Tokmanni store in Mäntsälä.

The fresh fish counter, which is highly popular among local customers in particular, will continue to serve customers as before, says Heimo.

“We are attuned to our customers’ needs. In Kemi, our traditional fresh fish counter is very significant for our customers. It’s clear that we want to continue to offer them salmon and other fresh fish.”

Local customers’ wishes are also taken into account in other departments. The store offers food products from local and regional companies, such as pastries from Merilapin Munkkitupa, brewery products from Tornion Panimo, meat from Veljekset Rönkä and fish from Ahuk.

The Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi also has a department with various ready-to-eat products, such as sandwiches and salads. Other takeaway products, such as juices and smoothies, are also available.

“One of the most interesting new features is an in-store bakery, which offers various types of bread, as well as croissants, buns and other classic bakery products and a changing selection of seasonal products and special batches. At the Tervaharju store, the in-store bakery offers a selection of more than 50 products,” says Heimo.

The Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi is also a full-service grocery shop. Its refurbished food and beverage department offers more than 7,000 food products, from fruit and vegetables to fresh fish. The picture here is from the Tokmanni store in Mäntsälä, where similar changes were implemented last year.

Waste, energy efficiency and convenient services have also been taken into consideration

Tokmanni seeks to reduce waste by optimising order volumes and deliveries, for example. Stores in the Tokmanni chain also sell soon-to-expire food products at half-price, starting two hours before the stores’ closing time.

For years, Tokmanni has only purchased renewable electricity for its locations. In addition, renewable solar energy is being produced by means of solar panels on the roofs of more than 50 Tokmanni stores.

“The Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi also has its own solar power plant. Last year, it produced more than 74,000 kWh of emission-free solar electricity for the store. This equals the annual electricity consumption of around 35 small apartments,” Heimo explains.

In a store with refrigeration and other equipment, it is particularly important to pay attention to energy efficiency, in addition to choices related to electricity production. At its Tervaharju store in Kemi, Tokmanni has improved energy efficiency by means of modern refrigeration equipment, for example.

Tokmanni also invests in useful services for customers. The Tokmanni store in Tervaharju in Kemi has a recycling point for small waste electrical and electronic equipment, where customers can bring small electrical appliances, such as coffee machines, drills and headphones, which are broken. At all Tokmanni stores, customers can also pick up orders made through the online store and withdraw cash when paying at the checkout. Naturally, purchases can also be made as a Tokmanni corporate customer and through the Tokmanni Klubi customer loyalty programme.
