BRITAIN’S MOST PHOTOGRAPHED SIGN

Jamaica Inn, standing high on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, is staking a claim to having the most photographed sign in Britain. The famous smuggling inn is visited by thousands of tourists and passers-by every year and most take a picture of the iconic sign during their visit. “We have seen whole coach parties standing in mass photographing the sign,” said Jamaica Inn’s chief executive Kevin Moore. “Obviously it is a must for British fans of Daphne du Maurier, but visitors from America and France, Japan and Australia all seem equally enthusiastic; for some reason photographing the sign seems to have become a bit of a trend.” Kevin is now trying to track down the oldest photograph of the inn’s signage. This has changed over the centuries but anyone with any information is asked to contact enquiries@jamaicainn.co.uk The inn is offering a night’s overnight accommodation and breakfast in October or November for the person who can find the oldest photograph of a Jamaica Inn sign.
