Its ambitious growth plan follows years of steady success supplying a wide range of power and hand tools and light building items to both trade and public customers. Online and direct call centre sales account for much of its business but during the last two years there has been a rapid expansion of a network of Toolstation trade counters across Britain which have added considerably to the company’s overall profitability. Toolstation has now started on a major programme to open up additional trade counters in key cities across the UK and is actively searching for the best locations. “Our requirements are quite specific,” said Philip MacLauchlan of Toolstation, responsible for this expansion. “We require premises of between 4000 and 8000 sq ft with car parking and loading facilities. New or modern warehouses or trade counters would be ideal and we are happy to consider existing or part complete buildings or developments.” Location is key in Toolstation’s search. The company is stipulating areas with catchment populations of 80,000 or more, ideally with some prominence to passing traffic. Also important are complementary traders in building, home improvement and related industries adjacent to the property. “To meet our plan of 40 new trade counters in a short timescale, we are working fast,” continued Philip “We are realistic about the rents we will have to pay and our confidence in this market enables us to consider good length leases, including 10 year leases where appropriate incentives are provided.” Toolstation offers one of the largest ranges of products for building and related trades, with over 10,000 key items on immediate availability.
