June 24th 2010 Britain’s pensioners invited to go up the wall! With pics (see bottom of release) People across the country are being urged to change their attitude to retirement by scaling new heights! A UK businessman is spearheading a nationwide campaign to help people understand that life today for the over 60s has radically changed from that of their parents. Tony Clack, 62, has already had huge success with his on-line magazine laterlife.com and his retirement workshop business which he operates all across the UK. Now he has gone, well, several steps further with a professional rock climbing wall that he has included at his company’s stand at this year’s Retirement Show. The show, a popular annual event that attracts around 8,000 visitors from across the country, is being held at London’s Olympia on 16th and 17th July. Tony says he will be inviting everyone to climb the wall and will be encouraging many people in their 60s, 70s and even 80s to take up the challenge. “The world for older people has changed dramatically during the last two generations,” he said. “Retiring at 60 or 65 used to mark the end of vigorous active life. Today, it marks the start of years of new opportunities. People are taking up new careers, returning to education and starting new sports and activities. “My big aim is to change the stereotypical view of retirement which still exists, especially in many companies. We believe the laterlife.com climbing wall will emphasise the fact that retirement marks the start of a new adventure in life.” The ageing population of the UK is predicted to be one of the major social changes of the 21st century. Already around 16 per cent of the population of the UK is aged 65 and over and by 2033 it is predicted to have risen to around 25 per cent. Laterlife also runs the www.laterlife.com web site which now has over 3000 pages of useful information related to every aspect of making the most of later life.
