QUALCOMM in Talks to Buy Wilocity and Omnicom Group Calls Off Proposal with Publicis Groupe SA

QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) is in advanced discussions to buy Israeli chipmaker Wilocity, according to financial news website TheMarker. The company has proposed to acquire Wilocity, which makes fast speed chips, for around $300 million. The two sides have not yet agreed to terms of all the provisions of the sale, TheMarker said. Qualcomm is already an investor in Wilocity, which develops 60 GHz, 7 gigabit wireless chipsets that allow for faster Internet speeds.


QUALCOMM Incorporated designs, develops, manufactures, and markets digital communications products and services based on code division multiple access (CDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), and other technologies. It operates in four segments: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL), Qualcomm Wireless & Internet (QWI), and Qualcomm Strategic Initiatives (QSI).

Omnicom Group Inc. (NYSE: OMC) has terminated its $35 billion merger proposal with Publicis Groupe SA. The deal would have  possibly have created the world’s largest advertising agency. Last July the two companies had announced the amalgamation and ultimate creation of Publicis Omnicom Group, which would have outshined WPP plc (WPPGY) as the largest advertising company. Both companies jointly delcared that the deal was called off due to complications in finishing the transaction in a rational time period.
