UT Arlington enrollment exceeds 34,000 for the first time
Students continue to flock to engineering, online nursing and education programs
UT Arlington enrollment for the Spring 2014 semester has climbed to a record 34,249 students, buoyed by strong growth in the College of Engineering and sustained demand for College of Nursing programs, preliminary reports show.
The University’s total enrollment including students who are enrolled online but who live outside the state of Texas is nearly 38,000. Enrollment will continue to increase throughout the spring as new sections of popular online nursing and education programs begin.
The strong enrollment report follows UT Arlington’s 2013 ranking by The Chronicle of Higher Education as the nation’s seventh fastest-growing public research university. Total research expenditures climbed to $77.7 million in 2013, fueled by more than $25 million in engineering research and $16.4 million in science research.
“Our record enrollment signals that more and more students are attracted to The University of Texas at Arlington for the quality and breadth of our academic and research programs,” President Vistasp M. Karbhari said. “We are committed to setting new standards for excellence in education and the discovery, integration, delivery and transformation of knowledge.”
Among the University’s largest academic units are the College of Nursing, with a record 8,289 students, and the College of Engineering, where enrollment is up about 19 percent from spring 2013 to 4,804 students this term.
The School of Social Work also saw significant increases with enrollment up 9.6 percent to 1,575 compared with spring 2013.
