UT Arlington music scholarship gala set for April 25 at Winspear Opera House
ARLINGTON - One of the crown jewels in the Dallas Arts District welcomes The University of Texas at Arlington Department of Music on Monday, April 25, for an enchanting evening of music and academic excellence.
The Music Department presents the 2011 Spring Scholarship Gala at the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. in downtown Dallas. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.
The gala will highlight UT Arlington music students from the Wind Symphony, Jazz Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and A Capella Choir.
Tickets are $25. Proceeds benefit an endowment for student scholarships.
"Support for scholarships is now, more than ever, a crucial aspect of the mission of the Department of Music," said John Burton, music department chair. "The economic downturn and decreasing state support can be overcome by increasing the funds available to our students."
To purchase tickets, visit the UT Arlington Department of Music online or call 817-272-3471.
UT Arlington is among only a few universities ever to host a concert at the Winspear, which opened in October 2009.
Martha Woolvord, assistant professor of violin and gala committee member, said the Winspear adds prestige to this year’s gala. "This kind of event raises the profile of the entire University," she said.
Each major ensemble will be led by its principle conductor: A Capella Choir, Karen Kenaston-French; Tim Ishii, Jazz Orchestra; Symphony Orchestra, Clifton Evans; and Douglas Stotter, Wind Symphony.
The UT Arlington Department of Music is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music with a world-renowned faculty. Listen to UT Arlington arrangements at http://www.uta.edu/music/music/.
