Vattenfall and Hydro extend cooperation in a new 11 TWh deal

Vattenfall and Norsk Hydro ASA have signed two new long-term electricity supply agreements from 2013 for 11 TWh in Germany. They assure competitive conditions for Norsk Hydro ASA’s decision to increase its production of aluminium products in Germany.

Norsk Hydro ASA decided to sign new agreements after Vattenfall offered a new customised solution for their investment in the Neuss smelter in Germany. The agreement covers a total of 2.2 TWh annually for five years and is a combination of an older restructured contract and a new contract.

“Our customers have very high expectations of Vattenfall, and we are pleased that Hydro opted to sign an agreement with us that contributes to creating long-term conditions for the electricity-intensive industry,” says Mattias Tingvall, Vice President Sales B2B.

Norsk Hydro ASA is based in Norway and is a global supplier of aluminium products. The company employs 22,000 people in 40 countries.

“We are pleased to have secured this contract, which is one of the conditions for us to increase our production from 50,000 to 150,000 tonnes annually during the first half of 2013,” says executive vice president Arvid Moss, Head of Hydro's Energy business area.
