As a part of Vattenfall’s strategy to supply climate smart solutions to its customers, the company now plans to take a stronger international market position in providing customised decentral and integrated energy solutions to real estate owners. A new business unit is formed, with operations in Sweden, Germany and the UK and by the end of 2018 also in the Netherlands.

These easy and more cost efficient local energy solutions such as solar power, e-mobility charging, local heat and storage technologies will enable real estate owners to become part of the journey towards fossil freedom within one generation.

─ The new energy landscape has extended the value chain. Compared to the past a large part of the energy will be generated, stored, converted and steered locally. Customers expect cost-efficient and reliable solutions that are tailored to their needs and provided by a trustworthy and competent partner like Vattenfall. That is why we create this new Business Unit, says Magnus Hall, CEO of Vattenfall.

A building is no longer a passive taker of centrally produced electricity and heat as decentral production has become more cost efficient as well as an important contributor to a future fossil free living. At the same time, the needs to provide charging for electric cars on-site increases. Properties evolve more and more into sophisticated energy systems that need energy storage and optimisation to cope with the fluctuating electricity production and demand within the building.

The new business unit of Vattenfall helps real estate owners, such as housing cooperatives, real estate companies and developers, to respond to this demand by designing, installing and operating tailored energy solutions for each customer. Vattenfall will offer a single point of contact, combining hardware and services into a complete and convenient energy solution. Vattenfall InHouse will be used as the brand name.

─ We will offer solar power, charging for electric cars, local heat and storage technologies as well as submetering to decrease energy usage, either one by one or as fully integrated solutions. All depending on what is optimal for the building and the preference of the owner, says Mattias Tingvall, Vice President of the new Business Unit Energy Solutions.
