Vattenfall sells German waste incineration plant

Vattenfall will sell its 85.5 per cent majority share of the waste incineration plant “Müllverwertung Borsigstraße GmbH” in Hamburg to the city’s waste handling company. The sales prices amounts to approximately EUR 67 million (approximately SEK 600 million).

“The agreement, which has yet to be approved by the Supervisory Boards of both companies, the Hamburg Senate and the Cartel Authorities, will be concluded between Vattenfall Europe New Energy GmbH and the waste handling company in Hamburg “Stadtreinigung Hamburg” (SRH). The approximately 100 people working in the plant will be employed by SRH.

The sale is carried through after a 20-year supply agreement between the companies recently expired. The plant produces heat for the district heating network in Hamburg and can annually burn 320,000 tonnes of household waste.
