    Vattenfall completes sale of its heat business in Germany to the State of Berlin

    Vattenfall today transferred all shares in Vattenfall Wärme Berlin AG, including the power plants, grids, subsidiaries, employees and shareholdings, to the State of Berlin.The corresponding contracts were signed in December 2023. The Berlin Parliament approved them in March. The Federal Cartel Office has also granted the necessary merger control clearance in early April.     Vattenfall inaugurates new heat and power plant and halves CO\2\ emissions in Berlin

    Vattenfall today inaugurated a new heat and power plant in Marzahn in Berlin. The highly efficient gas-fired plant will supply electricity and district heating in the eastern parts of the German capital and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 240,000 tonnes per year.The Marzahn heat and power plant contributes to Vattenfall more than fulfilling its agreement with the Federal State of Berlin that was signed in 2009. According to the agreement, Vattenfall would halve carbon dioxide emissions until 2020, compared to 1990. This target was reached already in 2017.

    Vattenfall has connected Europe’s largest Power-to-Heat facility to the district heating grid at its Reuter West power plant in Berlin.     The City of Berlin has today announced that its municipal energy company Berlin Energie will be awarded the new concession for the electricity grid in Berlin.
