ARE YOU THE NEXT WAHL REAL GUY?
Men's grooming leader asks guys to participate in Real Guys. Real Grooming. campaign and share their story
Over the past two years, men’s grooming leader Wahl has followed around a minor league baseball team, gone to the rodeo and learned the art of craft brewing to produce documentary-style ads and videos celebrating real guys, real grooming and real dreams. Now, Wahl is inviting real guys everywhere to share their stories of living or chasing their dreams for a chance to be featured in the company’s Real Guys. Real Grooming. campaign.
“We received tremendous response from our Real Guys campaign and some of that was from guys who wanted to share their personal story, so we decided to give them that opportunity,” said Steven Yde, director of marketing for Wahl. “At the end of the day, Wahl grooming products are for real, genuine, hardworking guys and we’re looking forward to finding and connecting with more of our customers and sharing their inspiring stories.”
Guys interested in becoming the Next Wahl Real Guy, can share whatever dream they’re living or following, whether it’s traveling the world, playing in a band or coaching a team to the little league championship, through a submission form on wahlrealguys.com. Stories selected by Wahl will be featured on the site and “real guys” could also be featured in advertising.
While the campaign is about real guys and their dreams, it’s also about how grooming—as in the right tools and achieving the right look—fits into their journeys. Guys whose stories are selected by Wahl will receive an Ultimate Grooming Kit, which includes the latest in men’s grooming tools from Wahl—Lithium Ion+ Trimmer, Elite Pro Clipper and the Microgroomsman Detailer.
The Real Guy campaign, which includes documentary videos that pick up where the ads leave off, are hosted on the campaign’s landing page: www.wahlrealguys.com. One video, titled “Prepared for Takeoff” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the training and preparation it takes to get on a bull and hold on for dear life while another video titled “Creative Expression” features the three facial-haired owners of Against the Grain brewery and restaurant discussing how they name and develop new craft beers. The site also includes a hair and facial-hair style gallery with how-to’s and product information.
The campaign was developed by HY Connect, an integrated advertising agency with offices in Milwaukee and Chicago, and has been running since 2013. It includes TV and digital advertising, online content, social media and earned media.
Guys interested in becoming the Next Wahl Real Guy, can submit their story in 100 words or less at wahlrealguys.com. You can also connect with Wahl on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
