On October 1, Wallenstam’s colorful garage with 1,500 solar cell modules in the façade will be ready to enter into operation in Mölnlycke Fabriker. The garage will function as the central carpark for all the residents and visitors in the growing area. Apart from a colorful exterior, the solar cell modules in the façade will produce energy for the garage’s lighting and charging stations, and in addition renewable energy will be generated for the electricity grid.

Companies in the Soltech Group are behind the construction of the colorful solar cell façade of almost 900 square meters in size, which changes color to blue, terracotta red, green and orange.

“We are happy and proud of the result. The solar cell façade is well suited to a cityscape and environment where we want to highlight sustainability in all stages. Aside from a colorful and pleasant parking environment, we are also looking forward to being able to use green energy directly from the sun in our new garage,” says Marina Fritsche, Vice CEO and Regional Director at Wallenstam.

In Mölnlycke Fabriker, colors and shapes have been a central part of the area over time. The textile artist Viola Gråsten who worked for Mölnlycke Fabriker from the middle of the 20th century, was internationally renowned for her colorful pattern collections. The solar cell façade will now continue this tradition by representing the area's connection to creative patterns and colorful elements while also generating locally produced green energy.

“It feels really great that the solar cell façade in Mölnlycke Fabriker is now ready to enter into operation. The team at Fasadsystem and our sister companies in the Soltech Group have done their utmost together with Liljewalls Architects to create a solar cell façade, which fuses green technology, function and design. The installation is a brilliant example of how the properties of the future can contribute to a visually attractive city experience but also contribute to the green shift,” says Kristoffer Göransson, Technical Manager and Project Manager at Fasadsystem, which is part of the Soltech Group.

“Installation of solar cell modules is well aligned with our climate target to reduce CO2 emissions from the properties’ energy
consumption. This is a sustainable initiative, which in Mölnlycke Fabriker is combined with very attractive architecture, which relieves pressure on the grid while reducing our need to buy energy,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager.
