60 square-meter orangery for Magasinsgatan
Wallenstam is developing the Artilleristallarna building on Magasinsgatan in Gothenburg. The façade is being freshened up, bricked-up windows are being opened and a new orangery will be built in the courtyard adjoining the property. The ambition in the next stage is to open up the garage for Gothenburgers and visitors through new activities.
“We want to preserve the atmosphere, the style and the unique feeling at the Artilleristallarna building and on Magasinsgatan while providing the right conditions for activities at the site to develop. The whole area is already a pleasant hub and by supplementing the existing buildings with an orangery, the site will gain another dimension,” says Marina Fritsche, Regional Director at Wallenstam.
Artilleristallarna on Magasinsgatan has a long history of different uses − stables, riding schools, livery stables, garages and shops have all been located here over time. The part of the present-day garage that is located above the shops will be converted into retail space and this will make it possible to provide an additional floor for the existing tenants.
The new 60 square-meter orangery is expected to be ready in late spring next year and will offer da Matteo’s customers the opportunity to stay outdoors all year round on the square itself. It will be an orangery featuring glazed sections in window bars, glulam beams and wrought-iron features.
“We are very much looking forward to expanding our business on Magasinsgatan, where the three activities that currently share the premises − a bakery, roasting house and café − will get even more space. Something we are extra happy about is the beautiful orangery, which will link together the roasting house and bakery on the upper floor − and will also create a wonderful oasis on what is a favorite place for many Gothenburgers,” says Pernilla Olow Gard, Marketing Manager at da Matteo.
The architect for the new construction of the Orangery is Kaka arkitekter, and the cultural history survey and inventory-taking ahead of the renovation was carried out by Lindholm Restaurering.
