The Central Block in Umami Park, right in the heart of the new area in Sundbyberg, has been certified according to BREEAM In-Use with the high rating of Excellent. BREEAM In-Use is the BRE’s (Building Research Establishment) international environmental certification system for existing buildings. The Central Block’s 37,000 square meters have been reviewed based on the management of water, air quality, noise, lighting, fire protection, waste and energy.

Some examples of initiatives in the Central Block are 88 boreholes which have been drilled down to a depth of 300 meters in the rock layers to extract geothermal energy for the power plant that supplies the block with heating and comfort cooling. This solution also enables the seasonal storage of energy. Together with Sundbyberg Avfall & Vatten (SAVAB), Wallenstam has also created the conditions for and inaugurated a brand new pneumatic waste collection facility for the area.

“It feels very nice to get such a good rating as Excellent for our work with the Central Block. Many people have been involved and contributed positively to the work in order to achieve this great result. This certification is a fine recognition both for us and for our new and future tenants,” says Magnus Eklund, Head of Production Department, Stockholm/Uppsala.

Since BREEAM In-Use was created in 2009, it has been used to improve, certify and market sustainability performance for thousands of buildings in more than 30 countries. The certification can be obtained in five different classification levels; pass, good, very good, excellent and outstanding. The Central Block in Umami Park can now boast about its high rating of Excellent.

Examples of tenants in the Central Block are Convendum, Förskolan Freden, Nordic Wellness and Sodexo. Other new tenants include Babas Burger, which is opening now in spring. After summer, Stella Pizza and Iveel Sushi are also opening and the greentech company Ferroamp is moving its headquarters here.
