Wallenstam is a proud donor and partner in the Stockholm City Mission’s major investment in the reconstruction of St Paul's Church at Mariatorget in Stockholm. St Paul’s has long meant a safe place for Stockholm City Mission participants, offering the possibility of support in the form of food, warmth, advice and a sense of togetherness. The vision is to create a meeting point with a large welcoming space, primarily for Stockholm City Mission participants, but also for everyone who wants to deepen their social engagement.

In March, the realization of the vision will start, and the inauguration of the new St Paul’s is planned for fall 2022. The construction work is expected to be in progress for 15 months.

Wallenstam has been a partner of the Stockholm City Mission since 2008 and is now increasing its engagement by becoming a donor in the reconstruction of St Paul’s.

We are proud to be able to contribute to an important investment for society and for those who are vulnerable in Stockholm. Unfortunately, the needs in society are increasing and through this initiative new opportunities will be created for the Stockholm City Mission to help more people,” says CEO Hans Wallenstam.

Wallenstam has been a secure partner for many years and we are happy that they have chosen to further increase their engagement by also donating money for the reconstruction of St Paul’s. The support of Wallenstam and the other donors is crucial for us to be able to realize the vision,” says Åsa Paborn, Director Stockholm City Mission.

Through the change to St Paul’s, the number of visitors is expected to increase by 60 percent. Apart from the core activities, the new St Paul’s will also be a place for culture and dissemination of knowledge in collaboration with different organizers. The meeting place will also serve as a venue for training in social projects and for debate concerning social and democracy issues.

We are working to create trust among people and here the new St Paul’s will play a very important role. The activities are still primarily focused on participants who lack welfare and who want to change their lives. However, it feels extremely valuable to be able to facilitate conversations among people with a strong sense of social engagement, since we know that the opportunity to participate in societal issues helps break the feeling of exclusion,” says Åsa Paborn, Director Stockholm City Mission.
