“It is gratifying to see that our reported emissions have also decreased this year and it is inspiring that the work that the business is performing connected to our climate targets is delivering excellent results within both production and management operations. A jointly developed action plan and great engagement from the entire business operations are some of the success factors in this work,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.
Wallenstam reports the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions according to Global Reporting Initiative. The four climate targets that were adopted in 2019 will apply during the business plan. Up to and including 2021, an overall outcome is reported which shows a decrease in all four target areas:
- CO2 emissions from the construction operations have decreased by 7.9 percent per square meter, the target is 10 percent per square meter.
- CO2 emissions from the properties’ energy consumption have decreased by 25.2 percent per square meter, the target is 15 percent per square meter.
- The properties’ residual waste has decreased by 20.1 percent per square meter, the target is 10 percent per square meter.
- Completed business trips were mostly carried out using electric car, train or via completely carbon-neutral and biofuel-based air travel.
Climate calculations and optimization of material choices in new production, our wind power production, installation of solar cells and modernization of district heating substations are some examples of measures that have contributed to reducing our CO2 emissions,” says Karin Mizgalski.
The sustainability work at Wallenstam is based on the Group’s sustainability policy, strategy and climate targets and covers all parts of the business. Wallenstam also supports the UN’s Global Compact initiative, which involves working on the basis of the ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the precautionary approach, anti-corruption and taking of responsibility in relation to environmental issues.
