Solar cells for just over 3,100 square meters of roof
Wallenstam is continuing its investment in installation of solar cells in the existing property holdings. Right now, 245 solar cell modules are being installed on Trollesundsvägen in Bandhagen. To date, a total of almost 1,800 units will soon have been installed on just over 3,100 square meters of roof. This is a conscious investment that will contribute to a climate-smart everyday life for Wallenstam’s tenants and at the same time is expected to generate more than 509,000 kWh of locally produced renewable energy.
Wallenstam was the first in the sector to be self-sufficient in renewable energy with its investment in wind power. In 2020, an inventory was also made of the entire property holdings in order to evaluate the potential for installation of solar cells. This work has now been converted into a roll-out plan.

“Our investment in solar cells is an important step in our sustainability work and is well aligned with our climate target to reduce CO2 emissions from the properties’ energy consumption. Wind power produces the most in the winter while the solar cell units have their highest production in the summer. This means that the combination of sun and wind is optimal for us at Wallenstam,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager.
Apart from analyzing the existing holdings, the potential for solar cells is being evaluated in all new construction. Besides the properties in Bandhagen in Stockholm, the ongoing and completed solar cell projects to date also include some of Wallenstam’s properties in Barkarbystaden in Järfälla, Umami Park in Sundbyberg as well as Kvillebäcken, Elisedal, Mölndal and Kallebäcks Terrasser in the Gothenburg area.
“In each new construction project, we are analyzing the potential for solar cells. It is a resource-efficient way to supply the properties with electricity. This is a sustainable initiative which means that we can relieve pressure on the electricity grid while reducing our need to buy energy,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.
