Wallenstam is performing better than the set climate targets. CO2 emissions from both the construction operations and the energy consumption in the properties decreased sharply during the period 2019 through 2022. In addition, conscious work with the company’s waste management has reduced the amount of residual waste.

“This is an impressive journey, to which the whole company has contributed in the work with our climate targets. Through our collective force, we have made great progress, something that we are now taking with us in the continued work with our new climate targets, which are aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.

The reduction in CO2 emissions in the construction operations was 13.4 percent per square meter. A result, which is an effect of climate calculations in the planning stage, conscious choice of materials, material optimizations and recycling projects.

The CO2 emissions from the energy consumption in the properties decreased by 28.7 percent in total per square meter. This is a result of more newly produced properties, an increased number of solar cell installations, modernization of district heating substations and optimization of heating systems.

“The reduction in our CO2 emissions feels absolutely fantastic. Having targets produces results and the company has made a brilliant effort to reach the business plan’s climate targets. Another great improvement was seen in the residual waste in our properties which decreased by 25.7 percent per square meter during the period. This is a positive trend that we would like to continue,” says Karin Mizgalski.

The fourth target related to carried out business trips, which have mostly been carried out using electric car, train or via completely carbon-neutral and biofuel-based air travel. Wallenstam’s business trips were mostly carried out in a climate-neutral way during 2022. The company has electric bikes and a carpool consisting only of electric cars, which can be used during business trips.
