Society is facing greater challenges than ever before when it comes to issues relating to crime and insecurity. The Safer Sweden Foundation (Stiftelsen Tryggare Sverige) has launched a National Knowledge Center for Placemaking in order to create safe, secure and attractive public spaces. Public and private placemaking has proved to be successful and Wallenstam is now entering as a partner in order to develop issues relating to placemaking.

The Knowledge Center’s mission is to gather the evidence-based research and experienced-based knowledge that exists, nationally and internationally, about these types of long-term collaborative work. The Knowledge Center will also adapt this knowledge and these methods to Swedish conditions and provide support and advice to municipalities and property owners that want to start and implement placemaking.

“Existing working methods to curb these trends have had limited success. Municipalities, property owners and businessmen need effective tools in the work of creating a safe environment and we are happy to now initiate collaboration with Wallenstam in order to further develop the work on issues related to public-private placemaking,” says Secretary General Magnus Lindgren, Safer Sweden Foundation.

Those behind the National Knowledge Center for Placemaking include the University of Uppsala, several trade associations and a number of property owners.

Safety and security is an extremely important issue for us, our tenants and for the whole of society. We have a strong focus on this issue and work with it in many different ways.  Therefore, it also feels important for us to participate as a partner to the National Knowledge Center for Placemaking,” says CEO Hans Wallenstam, Wallenstam AB.
