Gender equality, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities and climate action are the five global goals within the UN’s Agenda 2030 that Wallenstam has chosen to focus on in its sustainability work.

“For us, these goals represent a clear platform and a link to our guiding principles in the environmental area that we will work with during the current business plan. We shall reduce our environmental impacts every year, through initiatives within the focus areas energy, transports and resources,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager.

“Our entire focus on sustainability, the environment and social engagement is based on our corporate culture and an ambition to contribute to a more sustainable society. We are working in our business to contribute to a good standard of living for many people by providing more rental apartments, while developing safe, secure and lively city districts with attractive housing and commercial premises,” says Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam.

Based on the five global goals in Agenda 2030 that are prioritized by Wallenstam, equality and diversity are important principles during recruitments and in the internal work. The company has been self-sufficient in renewable energy with its own wind turbines through the subsidiary Svensk NaturEnergi since 2013. The work on actively reducing energy use in all properties and on reducing the quantity of district heating used is ongoing work.

“We have also started installing solar energy solutions in a few properties and we are continuing the development of advanced measurement technology in our operations in order to follow up and work with improvements and review how we can influence and improve our waste management,” says Karin Mizgalski.

Agenda 2030 consists of a total of 17 global sustainable development goals and is a detailed agenda, which was adopted by all of the UN’s member states in September 2015. The agenda and goals should provide guidance for the UN and the world’s countries, with the aim of together achieving a social, environmental and economically sustainable development.
