Wallenstam receives the Swedish Renewable Energy Award

Wallenstam’s comprehensive investments in renewable energy have been recognized with the Swedish Renewable Energy Award 2016. The climate award is presented every year by Swedish Wind Energy at the VIND wind power and renewable energy conference.

“It’s a great honor to receive the Swedish Renewable Energy Award. The award is a recognition that we are on the right track with our environmental investments, where our wind turbines represent a major and important part. We aim to be as green as possible in all contexts. Companies that just think about money can incur a major environmental liability and for this reason it should cost more not to prioritize the environment. This green way of thinking should pervade all investment decisions,” says Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam.

The motivation for the Swedish Renewable Energy Award 2016 was as follows:
Wallenstam is a property company, which is taking active responsibility for the shift to a sustainable society by producing and selling 100 percent green electricity. In 2006, Wallenstam commissioned its first wind turbine and in 2013 it became the first property company in Sweden to be self-sufficient in renewable energy. Wallenstam has successfully realized its vision of being able to offer its customers a long-term and climate-smart energy solution at a good price, while gaining greater control over its own electricity costs. The investments undertaken by Wallenstam in renewable energy have brought them the green jersey in the property sector – and also makes the company a model for industry in general.

Wallenstam owns 64 wind turbines through its subsidiary Svensk NaturEnergi, with a combined output of about 140 MW, and is currently self-sufficient in renewable energy.

The Swedish Renewable Energy Award was instituted in 2011 by Swedish Wind Energy, the trade association for wind power with 140 member companies, with the aim of highlighting business role models that show a deep understanding of the need to use renewable energy and the important role that industry can play in this transition. Previous winners include Google, IKEA and Tesla Motors, among other companies.
