Wallenstam reduces its emissions and obtains better ratings
Wallenstam’s sustainability report has now been published. The report has been expanded compared with previous years. The report shows that the Group reduced its carbon footprint during 2020 compared to 2019, primarily through reduced CO2 emissions from the construction operations and through lower energy consumption in the existing property holdings. In addition, the company has improved its results from Morningstar’s ESG raters, Sustainalytics and in the sustainability index CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).’
“Through our expanded reporting, we have become more transparent. A major difference compared to previous years, is that we are now also reporting emissions from the construction operations, refrigerant leakage and our business travel. We see that this is creating increased awareness. The fact that we are already noticing a positive effect due to the expanded sustainability work feels promising for the future,” says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.
Wallenstam’s sustainability work also supports the UN’s Global Compact initiative, which involves working on the basis of ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the precautionary approach, anti-corruption and taking of responsibility in relation to environmental issues.
“In our own way, we want to contribute to a better society, today and for future generations. A part of that is the establishment of our four climate targets, which focus on emissions from our construction operations, energy consumption, property waste and business travel. In addition to this, our social engagement has been a natural part of the company ever since its foundation. Today, Wallenstam supports 60 different organizations and initiatives, which are working in various ways to support vulnerable groups, combat social exclusion and contribute to youth activities and safety in our regions,” says Karin Mizgalski.
