Bremen celebrates street art: officially named a Street Art City
Bremen is a city with a lively street art culture and is now included in the Street Art Cities app
BREMEN, Germany – Bremen’s street art scene is celebrating a new era as it becomes an official partner of the interactive Street Art Cities app. As of early November 2024, art lovers and visitors to the city can discover the city’s works of art, both famous and lesser known, through digital means, as the metropolis on the Weser is now officially a Street Art City.
Street art in Bremen then and now
Street art has dominated the Bremen cityscape for decades. Painted in 1975 by Peter KF Krueger, the ‘Oma und Opa – Blick aus dem Fenster’ mural, which depicts an elderly couple looking out of a window, brought attention to an art movement that enjoys increased popularity today, with impressive murals like those adorning the walls of the Hochbunker in Walle, a district in the west of Bremen. Leading international artists like Markus Genesius have helped make Bremen a hub of street art in Germany.
The Street Art Cities app
The new Street Art Cities app, which is now also available for Bremen, includes an interactive map of more than 250 works of art in the city, so far. The app sees itself as a global community for street art, combining more than 1,700 cities. It also allows users to add their own discoveries and find out the history behind every piece of art. It is free to download on Android and iOS and can also be accessed from desktop devices: https://streetartcities.com/cities/bremen.
Street art routes
There are various routes allowing art lovers to explore Bremen. The Urban Minimalism route (13.9 km) and the Lucky Walls City Route (8.8 km) lead through various districts and highlight the diversity of the city’s art scene. There are also special routes like WALK THIS WAY! WOW123 featuring the works of artist Markus Genesius and providing an in-depth insight into the local street art culture.
Event for street art fans
The Hidden Treasure Festival by Peter Stöcker and his urban art agency Lucky Walls is the highlight of the street art year. The festival combines street art, music and family-friendly events, including live acts, photo exhibitions and graffiti workshops. In 2024, the largest artwork in Bremen, a mural on a large building façade covering 500 square metres, was at the heart of the event. The story continues in August 2025.

Bremen is a Hanseatic City on the Weser in the North of Germany. The city has its own airport and great connections to the railway network.
