WASHINGTON, DC (March 11, 2014)—WilmerHale is pleased to welcome Tara D. Elliott as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group in Washington DC. Ms. Elliott brings deep technical knowledge and more than a decade of experience litigating high-stakes intellectual property disputes.

Ms. Elliott was most recently a principal at a major US law firm. In 2011, she was appointed as a Special Master in the US District Court for the District of Delaware to assist the court with managing disputes in complex matters and IP litigation. She is a current member of the Federal Circuit’s Lawyer’s Advisory Council. She was previously appointed to the Third Circuit Lawyers Advisory Committee by the Chief Judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and as a member of the US Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel by the Judges of the US District Court for the District of Delaware.

Ms. Elliott is well known for her efforts to advance the progress of diversity in the legal profession. She is a fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, an organization of corporate chief legal officers and managing partners devoted to improving diversity in the legal profession.

“I have long been impressed by WilmerHale’s successful IP litigation practice and its deep bench of talent,” said Ms. Elliott. “The combination of the firm’s collaborative approach and broad business and litigation capabilities proved to be just the right mix for me in my next professional home.”

“Tara’s intellectual property litigation experience, dedication to client service and leadership in the legal community provide us with a unique opportunity to expand on our core strengths and build our litigation team,” said Lisa Pirozzolo, co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group.

WilmerHale’s IP Litigation Group features a premier litigation team backed by the academic and industry experience of more than 140 lawyers and technology specialists with scientific or technical degrees. Named IP Litigation Department of the Year by The American Lawyer in 2014, the firm’s lawyers have tried major cases in federal district courts from coast to coast, the US International Trade Commission and Germany. WilmerHale’s lawyers also regularly represent clients in patent appeals before the US Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Elliott clerked for the Honorable Gregory M. Sleet, Chief Judge of the US District Court for the District of Delaware in 2006, and then, in 2007, for the Honorable Raymond C. Clevenger of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Elliott was an analyst and computer engineer at the Central Intelligence Agency.

Ms. Elliott received her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, where she was a senior editor of the Journal of Constitutional Law. She earned a BS in computer engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1998. She is admitted to the Delaware, District of Columbia, US District Court for the District of Delaware, and US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit bars, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
