Scandinavian music streaming service WiMP by Aspiro today announced the launch of a customized iPad App. The new application features WiMP’s editorial profile and focus on music discovery. The app is available for download in AppStore in Norway and Sweden now.

WiMP is an Aspiro owned and managed music service currently available in Denmark, Norway and, Sweden, and in Portugal through a white label service. WiMP focuses on helping users find their way through the huge library of music available through streaming.

WiMP for iPad can be described as a merge of a desktop and mobile version. Compared to its sibling the iPhone, it is customized to fit the larger screen with a tablet-adapted user interface. Additional space has been given to editorial content such as artist biographies, playlists with editorial descriptions and album reviews. It also displays related artists, making it easier for users to discover new music.

”WiMP for iPad is focused on providing a new user experience featuring the best from the desktop and mobile versions. iPad is an exiting platform, well suited to inspire users to explore new music in a relaxed mode, such as in the sofa, in the garden, or when out travelling. The editorial content, creation of playlists and offline-mode on the go is also available in the iPad-version,” says Per Einar Dybvik of WiMP.

The iPad-version of WiMP contains the entire WiMP music library with more than ten million licensed tracks, and the entire editorial offering with playlists, album lists, search and more.

Released today, WiMP for iPad is the first unlimited music streaming service customized for a tablet in the region, and a number of improvements will follow in coming versions, both planned and user-generated.

WiMP is growing fast and by the beginning of May had 200,000 paying customers in four countries. In May, the roll-out to 700,000 Norwegian Canal Digital customers is ongoing, where one in three households in Norway is offered WiMP included in their TV-subscription. For this occasion, WiMP is hosting a press conference in Oslo tomorrow.
