As of today, the music streaming service WiMP will be available for all music lovers in Germany. WiMP was elected Best Music Service at the Meffy Awards last year, and regularly wins product tests in all its markets. The award-winning service has been designed specifically for the German market and offers an editorial music experience. WiMP starts today with the clear aim to be the best music service for music lovers in Germany.

The streaming service WiMP offers a musical experience that is personal, rich, and tailor-made for each market. As a digital music service, WiMP accompanies its users with a local perspective and expertise across all genres. WiMP not only provides millions of songs and a search box, but honest recommendations by real people - just like earlier in the record store. In Germany, the local editorial team is of course in place, providing local perspective and competence.

“The Scandinavian countries are on the forefront with music streaming, but 2012 will clearly be the year German music fans will discover how easy and revolutionary music streaming is, and how music can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere”, says Gunnar Sellæg, CEO of Aspiro.

WiMP has also expanded its catalogue for the German launch and has as of now licensed over 16 million tracks. Believe Digital, Kranky, Memphis Indistries , ROBA, Daredo, Paradise Distribution and One Little Indian Records are among the added labels over the last few months.

”Almost all music is available in WiMP already, but we continuously work to add even more songs from new vendors. We’re also tailoring content for each market, of course now for Germany, but we’ve also added a selection of classical and jazz-content in Norway in cooperation with festivals Festspillene, Nattjazz and Maijazz, we’ve launch redigitalized versions of the entire Birdnest catalogue in Sweden and in Denmark we’ve cooperated with Next2Live to launch a number of live concerts among others from the Roskilde and Spot Festivals,“ says Global Editorial Manager for WiMP Thor Martin Jensen.

WiMP has over 350,000 paying users worldwide and is growing rapidly. The service is available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany and in Portugal under a different brand. In 2012, WiMP will also launch in Holland, at least two other European countries and one non-European country.
