WiMP catalog grows at record pace
Music Service WiMP delivers millions of songs to users in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and its music catalog increases at a fast pace. In average, 30 000 new songs a day was added during October and WiMP users can now enjoy over 13 million songs and music from companies such as City Slang Records, Glitterhouse Records and Record Makers.
WiMP, which recently passed 350,000 paying customers, are also growing rapidly in number of tracks and the catalog has now passed 13 million songs. At an average length of three minutes, this is equivalent to more than a generations worth of listening, over 74 years of continuous music. In addition to a huge diversity, WiMP heavily focuses on having the most relevant catalog for each market, a catalog that WiMP's editors continously work to promote.
"WIMP aims to be the best service for music discovery, and that includes of course to have the best selection. We import new songs at a furious pace, some days more than 100,000 songs are added to our system and out to our users", says Per Einar Dybvik of WiMP.
WiMP focuses on editorial content and music discovery, and also aims to be first with news and the best at local music. For instance in Norway, WiMP cooperated with small and big music companies to make sure over 400 lost treasures from the Norwegian music heritage was digitalized and made available for the first time.
Among the record companies that WiMP users can now look forward to enjoying are Service Records with artists like Jens Lekman, City Slang Records with Calexio, Caribou and Nada Surf and Record Makers with Sebastien Tellier and Kavinsky. In addition, Manfred Mann's Earth Band is on its way, and WiMP has also started to import the giant classical catalog of Naxos. WiMP-users can also listen to a range of exclusive releases. Examples include a commentary version of Norwegian artist Jonas Alaska's self-titled album success, exclusive bonus tracks from Swedish artists such as Peter Jöback and Anna Ternheim and concert recording from the premiere of WiMP Live in Denmark which was recently held for the first time in Copenhagen with three Danish bands. WiMP is also working with Norwegian Idol, and every Friday evening, the participants contributions are available directly after the TV-show. The Swedish Saturday entertainment "Så Mycket bättre" is released in the same manner on Saturdays.
WiMP is growing rapidly and has over 350,000 paying customers in four countries, up from 100 000 at year end. 700,000 Norwegian Canal Digital customers are now also offered WiMP included in their TV subscriptions. WiMP is available in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and in Portugal under a different trademark and WiMP is now preparing launches in Germany, Ireland and Benelux. WiMP was in July ranked the best music service at the Meffy Awards in London. It recently also won a consumer's test in Swedish Gaget Magazine "M3".
