Winterhalter meets Angels at Westminster in aid of Environment
Westminster, 12 November 2012: Stephen Kinkead, managing director of Winterhalter UK, accepted a Green Apple award on behalf of the company at the Houses of Parliament on November 12, 2012. The Award is for Winterhalter’s energy-saving UC Series of undercounter warewashers.
The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 by The Green Organisation to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practise. They are now established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world.
Judges praised the efforts of the Winterhalter R&D team in developing technology that has allowed the company to incorporate heat exchangers into an undercounter machine for the first time. The compact, circulating air heat exchanger is able to recover heat efficiently in the smallest of spaces. It extracts the energy from the warm, humid water vapour inside the machine and uses it to heat the incoming cold fill. This reduces energy consumption by 0.1 kWh per cycle. If the machine is put through 80 cycles per day, it can save up to 2920 kWh per year.
“This prestigious environmental award is a great tribute to Winterhalter's R&D programme,” said Stephen Kinkead. “Our IRT (Intelligent Resource Technology) initiative is all about reducing consumption of energy, water and chemicals and, consequently, running costs. To have this authoritative acknowledgment of our commitment helps us and our business partners, consultants and dealers, to drive the environment message home to end users.”
The awards were handed over by the three founders of K9 Angels, the charity devoted to saving stray dogs in places like Romania and Thailand. They are singer Pola, actress Anneka Svenska and model Victoria Eisermann.
Winterhalter provides a total solution for warewashing, from pre-sales advice to after-sales service, training and maintenance.
