DUO SET TO EMBARK ON VERY OWN WORLD OCEAN CHALLENGE!

Two employees will undertake a World Challenge expedition of their very own next year when they boldly attempt to row unassisted across the North Atlantic Ocean from New York to London.

Both originally from the UK, Pete Fletcher and Tom Hudson, who now work at Work Challenge’s Australasia office in Melbourne, will employ the company’s ethos of Challenge, Participation and Environment to achieve their goal when they set off on their journey in June 2015.

The challenge is set to take a gruelling 80 days with only 13 boats having ever previously crossed the North Atlantic from west to east, but none from New York to London!

In the process, Pete and Tom are hoping to raise enough money to send underprivileged students from the UK, USA and Australia on their own life-changing World Challenge expeditions around the world.

And also, the name of every school that World Challenge currently works with across 25 countries will appear as typography on the hull of the 20ft boat, highlighting the organisation’s unrivalled scope.

Despite the obvious risks, including extreme winds and large swells, Pete and Tom are excited about the 3,011 nautical-mile crossing.

It was only in 2010 that Tom and his girlfriend Jodie Burton set off on a global cycle trek through 29 countries before successfully reaching the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand the following year.

Pete said: “For me this challenge is less about rowing unassisted across the Atlantic and more about what World Challenge stands for. We believe that life skills are developed through real life experiences. We believe that everyone has a dream inside them and if young people are encouraged to chase their dreams, then they’ll achieve great things.”

Tom added: “Our mission is to empower young people to dare to dream, to take on inspiring challenges, learn from them and lead fulfilling and authentic lives.”
