LEGENDARY EXPLORER SUPPORTS NEW WORLD CHALLENGE GLOBAL PRODUCT OFFERING

One of the world’s greatest adventurers, Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, has urged more students to sample the “life-changing experience” of an expedition.

Speaking in the foreword of World Challenge’s new global Challenger (student) Handbook aimed at delivering key learning, safety and expedition skills information, Fiennes said: “An expedition is a life-changing experience as well as a developmental journey that begins long before you take those first steps into the unknown.

“The intensity and unpredictable character of the natural environment is what excites and stretches me to the limit and if I could offer a single piece of advice (to a student) it would be that I’ve never met anyone who has regretted going on their first expedition, no matter how arduous.

“They won’t be disappointed as long as they remain committed to what lies in front of them, they work together with their fellow students to succeed and focus on preparing both mentally and physically,” added Fiennes, labelled as “the world’s greatest living explorer” by The Guinness Book of Records after his gallant 100,000 mile Transglobe Expedition in 1982.

World Challenge, which has offices across the UK, Australasia, South East Asia, North America and the UAE, currently works with schools in 25 countries and has over 10,000 students across 500 schools on the ‘books’ at any one time.

Many Challengers have gone on to achieve greatness including Winter Olympics Gold Medallist Lizzy Yarnold (Maya Route, 2006) and former Olympic and Commonwealth 400m Champion Christine Ohuruogu (Bolivia, 2002).

As well as vital safety and fitness information, the aim of the handbook is to allow Challengers to track their progress through the pre-expedition programme, as well as focus on the key learning outcomes including responsibility, leadership, planning, and teamwork.

World Challenge Group MD Matt Eastlake added: “We aim to support and facilitate the development of young people through life-changing experiences.

“The main difference between a World Challenge expedition and other school trips is that it is designed to be student-led, providing an experience which places students in a strong position to make the most of their future careers.”

World Challenge offers three different expedition products – Pioneer (up to 10 days), Explorer (10 to 20 days) and Leader (20 days plus).
