WORLD CHALLENGE PROVIDES TENT-TASTIC DONATION
World Challenge has underlined its community engagement ethos by donating an abundance of tents to local charity CHAOS.
CHAOS is a small, registered charity based in East London that provides free summer camping holidays for disadvantaged children.
It was set up by three school friends whose bold and rather adventurous aspiration was to give local children a sense of community and teamwork in the hope that it might help them avoid getting caught in the poverty trap. Since its formation in 1976, over 2,000 children have received a holiday from CHAOS.
A typical week’s activities will include team games, art and craft activities, trips to the beach and seaside towns, exploration treks, trips to the circus and roller disco plus paddling in the sea or swimming in the local pool.
World Challenge, the leading global provider of student-led expeditions, therefore handed over 64 of its used two and three man tents that are now surplus to requirements.
Head of Logistics Rod Hicks said: “We chose CHAOS mainly because it is a local charity who are funded entirely by donations. Their ideology is quite similar to that of World Challenge whereby they want to give school children a chance to learn a new skill, gain a different outlook on life and introduce them to the great outdoors.
“By donating these tents we are able to make sure the charity can still continue to offer kids this experience and afford them the opportunity to have a truly amazing outdoor camping holiday.”
Norman Haynes, CHAOS Communications Officer, added: “Our old tents were beyond repair and this year’s Summer Camps would have been impossible without the generous donation of tents from World Challenge.
“Our commitment was to provide holidays for 60 disadvantaged London children and we met this goal thanks to their help.”
