The Swedish Artist Tone Sekelius Releases West Pride's Official Pride Anthem "Girls & Dolls" – An Electronic Tribute to Girls and Trans Girls
With her new single "Girls & Dolls", Swedish artist, songwriter, and influencer Tone Sekelius, who has built an audience of more than 268,000 followers on social media, takes another step forward in her career. The result is a vibrant electronic pop track filled with energy, pride, and togetherness – created for summer Pride celebrations, dance floors, and festivals.
The song is a tribute to girls in general and trans girls in particular. With a clear message of visibility, strength, and the right to be yourself, Tone aims to highlight a group whose voices need to be heard now more than ever.
– I wanted to create a song that feels like a party from the very first second, but also says something important. "Girls & Dolls" is about taking up space, being yourself, and celebrating all the amazing girls out there. I especially wanted to highlight trans girls because I believe our voices and stories need to be heard more than ever, says Tone Sekelius.
For Tone, "Girls & Dolls" also holds special significance. The song is her most personal songwriting project to date and marks a new chapter in her musical journey. For the first time, Tone is responsible for the majority of both the lyrics and melody of one of her own singles, together with Adrian Björklund and Grace Ejderflykt.
– "Girls & Dolls" is very close to my heart. I've co-written many of my songs before, but this time I wrote most of the lyrics and melody myself. Being able to further develop the song together with Adrian and Grace made it even more special to me, says Tone Sekelius.
– It feels fantastic that Tone is creating this year's anthem for West Pride. At a time when trans rights are constantly being questioned, it feels absolutely right to have someone as incredibly talented as Tone on our stage. Especially when "Girls & Dolls" serves both as a celebration and as a powerful response to all the ignorance and hostility we see online and in public spaces, says Agnes Rudbo, Executive Director of West Pride in Gothenburg.
Over the past few years, Tone Sekelius has established herself as one of Sweden's most prominent artists and creators. She made history as the first openly transgender person to compete solo in Melodifestivalen, Sweden's Eurovision selection competition, and won the hearts of the Swedish public with her entry "My Way". Beyond music, she has also showcased her versatility by winning Sweden's MasterChef VIP in 2024.
Extravagance, humor, and a fearless all-in attitude have become part of Tone's signature style. The same energy runs through "Girls & Dolls" – a song that combines celebration, self-confidence, and community with a message of pride and visibility.
Interest in the song has already been strong. "Girls & Dolls" was selected as the winner of West Pride's Pride Anthem Competition 2026 and will be performed live by Tone Sekelius on West Pride's main stage in Gothenburg on Saturday, June 13 at 7:00 PM.
