YIT Corporation Press Release October 18, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.

On October 18, 2016, YIT and Oy Porvoo International Point College Ab signed a turnkey contract on the design and implementation of a new school building in Porvoo’s Länsiranta area. The contract will be implemented under the construction leasing model, with SEB Leasing Oy as the financing partner. The building permit is expected to be granted in spring 2017 and construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2018.

“Customer orientation is one of our core values and I am confident that the new premises will substantially increase the well-being and satisfaction of our students and personnel alike. Our goal is to have genuinely flexible and adaptable premises that allow us to implement modern and pedagogically effective methods to maximise the joy of learning. We are also looking forward to co-operating with businesses that can propose exciting concepts for utilising the new space. Operating next door to the University of Applied Sciences will also generate macroeconomic benefits and the opportunity to build a ‘speedway’ into the education system,” says Sari Gustafsson, Managing Director and Principal of Point College.

The start of Point College’s school building project coincides with the broader development of the Länsiranta area between Aleksanterinkaari and Kokonniemi to increase the density of the urban structure. “The new school building and future residential developments will shape Länsiranta into a diverse neighbourhood of housing, education, cultural services and commercial services, all within walking distance of the city centre. This is precisely the kind of development of sustainable urban environments that YIT’s strategy is geared towards,” says Juha Kostiainen, Senior Vice President for Sustainable Urban Development at YIT.

“The goal of the City of Porvoo is to develop the Länsiranta area to make it part of the city centre. We want Länsiranta to be a vibrant location for housing, commercial services, public services and culture. This project will see the development of a school building as well as new rental housing and owner-occupied housing in the area,” says Fredrick von Schoultz, Deputy Mayor of Porvoo.

The development of the neighbourhood is also a continuation of YIT’s residential production in the Länsiranta area. The Aleksanterinportti project in the same area will see 34 urban homes completed in August 2017. “Good connections and the proximity of services make Länsiranta an attractive residential neighbourhood. There has been a lot of interest in the Aleksanterinportti apartments. Going forward, we will develop a diverse residential offering in the area by utilising various forms of housing and our new concepts. Among other things, we intend to implement our Smartti housing concept, which combines functionality, adaptability and affordability,” says Tero Karislahti, Head of Unit, YIT.
