ARTISTS TO INSPIRE VISITORS AT THIS YEAR’S GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW

Art lovers are promised the most exciting exhibition yet at next month’s Great Yorkshire Show. Artists from across the county will be inspiring visitors – and offering tips and advice on how to create their own masterpieces – at England’s premier agricultural show.

More than 135,000 visitors are expected to flock through the gates for the three day event, which runs from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 July at the 250-acre showground on the edge of Harrogate.

As well as some Great Yorkshire favourites, a number of new artists will be exhibiting at the event.

Swaledale sheep artist Sandra Parker, who grew up on a sheep farm at Menwith Hill, Harrogate, is new to the Art Pavilion – her work can be seen in private collections across the world including in Dubai, Australia and New Zealand, while artist Chris Rymer, who works in wood, is also making his Art Show debut.

For the third year running, the Art Pavilion is also playing host to three days of master classes run by many of the region’s top artists.

Art Show organisers Judy and Les Packham said they are particularly excited about this year’s line-up. “Over the years, the Art Show has grown in size and popularity and is now a ‘go to’ destination in its own right. We have established a reputation amongst visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show who thoroughly enjoy visiting the exhibition and meeting and talking to the artists involved,” said Judy.

“We have our most diverse range of art mediums this year – as well as traditional paintings, we have looked at 3D art and have attracted artists who work in bronze, stone, wood, ceramics, wire and steel,” she said. Work by Judy’s husband Les will also feature in the Pavilion.

The workshop schedule runs throughout the three days of the show, with artist demonstrations at 10am, 1pm and 3pm.

Artists taking part are: Richard Keeton of Dalby Forest, Scarborough, Les Packham of Wakefield, Bruce Mulcahy of Dewsbury, Mike Hendy of Sheffield, Fiona Bowley of Thornton in Craven, Skipton, Robert Brindley of Sleights, Whitby, Joel Walker of Leics, Ruth Buchanan from Bramham, Wetherby, Sandra Parker of Sedbergh, and from Harrogate - Chris Rymer, Fiona Mazza, David Allen, Steve Blaylock, Chris and Eric Moss and Caryl Hallett.

Elsewhere around the showground there are thousands of animals competing for the coveted championship rosettes, exciting ring displays, demonstrations of country skills, fashion and food shows and hundreds of stands selling everything from designer clothing to combine harvesters. This year HRH The Countess of Wessex will visit the event for the first time (Tuesday 8 July), and the following day, Wednesday 9 July, HRH The Princess Royal will be the guest of honour.
