Soceity's Harvest Service - All Welcome

Report this content

A key highlight on the region’s farming calendar is on the horizon. The Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s harvest thanksgiving service takes place on Sunday 4 October at York Minster and all are welcome. The preacher is The Rev Dr Gordon Gatward who has spent much of his working life providing pastoral support to rural communities.

The Society’s Chaplain, Rev Canon Leslie Morley said: “The 'Yorkshire Harvest' is a wonderful annual celebration of the county's agricultural produce, and an opportunity to give thanks for God's blessings as well as for the work and skill of our farming community. This year we are delighted that the service will be in York Minister with the Minster Choir.

He added: “Gordon Gatward is well known to many in the north. He was a Methodist Minister in Hawes and through his work at the Arthur Rank Centre, he was involved in establishing the Addington Fund and FCN (The Farming Community Network). An intelligent and lively preacher, he is well worth coming to hear." The service begins at 11.30am.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society was established in 1837 with the primary purpose of holding an agricultural show and for the furtherance and support of farming in the region. This ethos continues today, through its flagship events, the Great Yorkshire Show (Tues 12 – Thurs 14 July 2016) and Countryside Live, (Sat 17 and Sun 18 October 2015).  Year round it has an active programme of events and activities supporting the farming and rural communities, particularly in the North of England. It also runs Fodder, the award winning regional food shop and café. The Society is based at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, N. Yorkshire. For more information see www.yas.co.uk
