#teamZalaris finishes amongst the top 10 in the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon – known as the world’s ultimate triathlon
#teamZalaris for Norseman 2022 comprises of Lillian Dramsdahl (48), Timo Bracht (46), Svenja Mann (44), Andreas Halvorsen (60), Sinead Conneely (33), Mark Bamford (48), Richard Traynor (59), Simone Kragh Jacobsen (30), Flora Colledge (36) and Hans-Petter Mellerud (61).
Together they have raised over NOK 0.5 million benefitting Aktiv mot kreft, 5K Your Way and Kitz Hopp Children's Cancer Centre. The team continues to keep their fundraising pages active to support these organisations further.
“I have raced all over the world, but this race was something special”, says Bracht, a legend in the world of triathlon, who came in 7th after a strong race, constantly pushing in the front. This was his comeback after 5 years of gap from professional triathlons. Moreover, the whole team made it into top 160 and finished the race at Gaustatoppen, receiving the iconic black t-shirts as proof. The winner Jon Breivold, previous member of #teamZalaris and Aktiv mot kreft ambassador, crushed the course record by almost half an hour with a time of 9:23:29.
Timo Bracht continues to say, “The race is extremely tough, but finishing at Gaustatoppen made it all worth it. In the end, it is about more than swimming, biking, and running yourself – it is a team effort. I had a fun day with my family and support crew and was proud to do it all for a bigger cause.”
This year’s competition was an effort with difficult weather conditions. Jumping into the cold water in Eidfjord, biking through the thick fog over the Hardangervidda, and running against the wind towards Gaustatoppen, that were all a part of the athletes’ journey.
Five other athletes from Germany, Denmark, Norway and the UK did not make it to the starting line this year: Torsten Neufeld (35), Simone Kragh Jacobsen (30), Mark Bamford (47), Morten Eikebu (42) and Richard Traynor (58). However, they continued with fund raising activities to inspire people towards an active lifestyle.
Norseman Xtreme Triathlon is a full distance triathlon that starts with a jump from a ferry into Eidfjord, in Hardanger. After a rather chilly 3.8 kilometre swim, the course takes you on a 180 kilometre ride through some of Norway's most stunning landscapes. The marathon run concluding the race, ends at the peak of the iconic Gaustatoppen. The 226 kilometre race accumulates just over 5000 meters of ascent. Zalaris is a title sponsor of Norseman Xtreme Triathlon.
CEO and founder of Zalaris, Hans-Petter Mellerud explains, “One of the benefits of being the title sponsor is that we get some of the very coveted slots for starting in the race. Last year there were more than 8500 lottery tickets for 250 slots. We use this actively to recruit athletes who also want to fundraise for the fight against cancer. This truly aligns with our values of Aiming High - where #bestingmyself is everyone's motto because we give the best versions of ourselves to the team. Moreover, our team shows that #bestingmyself has no age limit, with Timo pushing in front and Andreas and me being the only ones above the age of 60 making the cut for Gaustatoppen. It is all about your own persistence. I am extremely proud of #teamZalaris for their positive attitude and giving their best in the race, as well as in fundraising, making us use a fantastic event to draw attention to a cause close to our hearts.”
