How to make a robot Dj

Report this content

We’ve seen robots play ping-pong, make jumpshots on the basketball court, and recently attempt parkour in an obstacle-littered warehouse, but we haven’t seen a robot DJ…until now.

Based in Norway, Zivid designs and manufactures industrial 3D color cameras for demanding robotic applications. Their high-quality 3D vision and software enable customers to detect, pick, and place parts in bin-picking, piece picking, assembly, machine tending, and packing applications. If your robot can see more, it can do more.

One of the most successful Djs in the world is also Norwegian: Kygo, aka Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, just turned 30 a few days ago. As a tribute to his music and their common northern heritage, Zivid has released a one-of-a-kind video to wish him a happy birthday. The clip shows their latest product, the Zivid Two 3D camera, attached to a robot arm, mixing on a controller like a real Dj.

If it is just "pretending" to Dj, Zivid Two has took some real point clouds of the controller and then has been programmed by engineers to mimic the Dj's movements. Building any robot project with 3D vision, whether for factory lines or for musical stages, can be challenging. But with the Zivid Two's high-quality technology and a by-the-book process to build the application, this was made possible.
