    Mack launches medium heavy version of Granite model

    The Volvo Group’s US subsidiary Mack is launching a new medium heavy version of its highly successful Granite model.  The launch is being made in connection with the ongoing CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show in Las Vegas.The Mack Granite is primarily used for transports in demanding environments, such as construction sites.     UAW members approve new agreement with Mack Trucks

    Members of the U.S. trade union, the United Auto Workers, have approved the new 40-month Master Agreement with the Volvo Group’s subsidiary Mack Trucks. The agreement includes the establishment of an independent trust that will completely eliminate Mack’s commitments for providing healthcare to retired employees. As previously announced, this will have a negative impact of approximately USD 110 M on the Volvo Group’s operating income during the second quarter of 2009 and a negative impact of the same amount on net debt.The trust must be approved by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern

    Mack delivers hybrid vehicle to City of New York

    During an event yesterday, the Volvo Group’s Mack Trucks subsidiary was recognized for delivering the first parallel-hybrid truck in the U.S. designed specifically for heavy-duty applications. The vehicle is a refuse collection truck that will be tested by the City of New York’s Department of Sanitation. As a result of the hybrid operation, in which an electric motor and a diesel engine work in parallel, fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 30% and carbon emissions decreased to the same extent. The vehicle also fulfills the stringent EPA10 emissions standards that become effective in 2010,

    Review decision Mack

    The Swedish National Tax Board has announced a review decision in an internal pricing issue to AB Volvo’s American subsidiary Mack. The decision results in an increased taxable income for AB Volvo for the years 2002 and 2003 totaling SEK 828 M, corresponding to tax of SEK 232 M. In addition, the Tax Board levied a tax surcharge of SEK 83 M. As a result of the decision, Volvo has been placed in a double taxation position.AB Volvo will appeal the decision. AB Volvo considers that the Tax Board increase is unfounded since the internal pricing in Volvo’s opinion complies with OECD’s guidelines.

    US Environmental Protection Agency recognizes Mack for reduction in emission of greenhouse gases

    At a meeting in Chicago last Wednesday, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized the Volvo Group’s US subsidiary Mack for the company’s successful efforts in significantly reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.It was within the framework of the Climate Leaders program that Mack worked with reducing the emission of greenhouse gases from its operations. Between 2003 and 2007, the company reduced its emissions of greenhouse gases by a full 32% per manufactured unit.During the same period, Mack simultaneously reduced the total emission of greenhouse gases by 25%.This
