Pumped Hydro Power Plant in Austria

ÅF has signed a contract of several million Euro with Pumpspeicherkraftwerk Koralm GmbH to provide the engineering services for the Koralm Pumped Storage Power Plant in Styria, Austria.

The Koralm Pumped Storage Power Plant has a capacity of approximately 940 MW. The project essentially comprises upper and lower reservoirs, headrace tunnel, penstock and tailrace tunnel, surge tank, cavern powerhouse with access tunnel, tunnel system, power transmission line and switchyard.


The contract begins with a project review and a feasibility study. This will be followed up by the preparation of tender documents and construction design as well as services to be provided for local site supervision.


After its completion, the Koralm Pumped Storage Power Plant will be the most powerful hydro power plant in Austria.


This is a very welcome order stretching over the next several years and reflects the strength of ÅF’s consulting services in pumped storage hydro power plants.
