    ÅF helps bring electric power to the people of Uganda

    ÅF in Switzerland has won a prestigious assignment as project management consultant (PMC) for the 600 MW Karuma Hydropower Project in Uganda, launched by Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL). The project is part of UEGCL’s initiatives to bring electric power to the people of Uganda. When commissioned in 2018, Karuma Hydropower Plant will be the largest in the country.     ÅF already in action on a new contract for consulting services to provide support to the implementation of the Environmental and Social Action Plan for Lai Chau Hydropower Plant in Northern Vietnam.     ÅF is awarded a new contract for extension of the Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant Lamtakong in Thailand. ÅF in Switzerland signed a contract with EGAT (Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand) for the Owner Engineering Consulting Services on installing units 3 and 4 for the Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Hydro Pump Storage Power Plant.     ÅF assigned new hydropower project

    ÅF is to supply Skogsforsen’s hydropower plant in Ätran with new electrical and control equipment. The assignment is a full-service undertaking in which ÅF will be responsible for electrical design, PLC programming, electrical installations and commissioning.     Pumped Hydro Power Plant in Austria

    ÅF has signed a contract of several million Euro with Pumpspeicherkraftwerk Koralm GmbH to provide the engineering services for the Koralm Pumped Storage Power Plant in Styria, Austria. The Koralm Pumped Storage Power Plant has a capacity of approximately 940 MW. The project essentially comprises upper and lower reservoirs, headrace tunnel, penstock and tailrace tunnel, surge tank, cavern powerhouse with access tunnel, tunnel system, power transmission line and switchyard.     Newly signed contract - small hydro power plant in Switzerland

    ÅF signed a contract as Owner’s Engineer for the new small hydro power plant Cotlan in Rüti. Two 80 year-old Francis turbines with a total capacity of 0.32 KW are still in operation today. This small hydro power plant was originally the power supply of the textile manufacturer “Textilfabriken Cotlan AG”, whose production buildings and the employee houses still exist and are stringently protected by the cultural heritage ordinance. In a significant increase of performance, the headrace of the new power plant will go from 12 meters to 18.6 meters and the capacity will be rise to 2.3 MW.

    Lai Chau RCC dam completed

    The Lai Chau RCC dam in Vietnam was completed in the beginning of May, almost one month ahead of schedule. The 131 m high Roller Compacted Concrete gravity dam, for the 1’200 MW Lai Chau Hydro Power Plant, was completed on May 2, after 26 months of dam construction and slightly more than one month ahead of the originally planned construction end.     ÅF is proud to announce that the 900 MW Nant de Drance Pumped Storage Power Plant Project is this year’s winner of the "Major Tunneling Project Award".   The award is organised by New Civil Engineer and the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES).     ÅF has signed an agreement  worth 2.15 CHF million with Hindustan ConstructionCompany Ltd (EPC Contractor).
