AQ Components Västerås AB begins negotiations with the unions to close down production in Smedjebacken and move it to Estonia

In connection with the closure of AQ Welded Structures in Ludvika 2018, an opportunity opened up to move part of the business to Smedjebacken and combine it with a project business for production equipment. The idea was to maintain part of the production in Sweden close to the customer and with better profitability.Unfortunately, the business has continued to make a loss in 2019 and 2020. With this, we have been forced to make a decision to start MBL negotiations on decommissioning in Smedjebacken and move to AQ Lasertool in Estonia."It is very sad that we did not succeed in establishing a profitable production and project business in Smedjebacken and that we are now forced to make this decision," says Anders Carlsson, CEO of AQ Group. "We will now continue to work on this issue in close collaboration with the unions, customers and employees"

The operations in Smedjebacken currently have 20 employees and these were informed today about this decision. AQ Components Västerås in Smedjebacken manufactures complex welded and machined components, primarily in aluminium. The part of the business that develops production equipment has already decreased in sales and personnel during the year.
