Getting Gloucester Active

Steve Elway, Chief Executive at aspire Sports and Cultural Trust in Gloucester has set his sights on one goal - Getting Gloucester Active. His aim is to remind people in the city that fitness should be high on their agenda

Steve is well aware of the fact that more emphasis needs to be placed on fitness and health in the community. A quick and easy way to spread the message involves dedicated members of aspire staff riding a promotional bike displaying the message and reaching as many people as possible. Naturally, Steve wanted to be the first to test-ride the bike, and he rather liked it.

“We are actively getting ourselves out into the community to ensure our message is seen and our friendly staff are on hand to guide people, helping them achieve their goals however large or small.”

Current studies show that only a third of the adult population meet the Chief Medical Officer guidelines for physical activity. (Health Survey for England) With that statistic in mind, Steve said, “aspire is committed to making Gloucester a place in which people of all ages and abilities have access to high quality, enjoyable sporting opportunities. We aim to get the community physically active so everyone can enjoy a healthy, happy lifestyle.”

Whether it be riding the bike through the streets of Gloucester or walking it through pedestrian only areas, it is important to aspire to get people thinking about exercise and how much it can improve life. Steve is proud of aspire’s environmentally friendly method of marketing and is keen to continue this for the foreseeable future - Practicing what they preach, keeping fit whilst encouraging others to do so at the same time.

Aspire is proud to offer a diverse range of activities at GL1 Leisure Centre and Oxstalls Sports Park aimed at Getting Gloucester Active.”
